Who we are
Be Your Best was started in 2013 to address the Community Health Priorities in South Lane County in alignment with the Lane County and PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Health Improvement Plans (CHP). We follow the Collective Impact Model, and the Ford Family Foundation Rural Community Building Approach, working with partners to collaborate on projects that will build healthy communities.
BYB brings people to the table who are excited about community engagement and opportunities for collaboration and encourages members to approach challenges with flexibility and open minds.
Be Your Best provides a pathway for communication and promotion of ideas between different levels of project development and implementation, our meetings and network channels create direct connections between organizers, policy makers, and donors.
Be Your Best monthly meetings are open to everyone supports health and wellness in South Lane and North Douglas county, providing a welcoming space for everyone to be part of the process. We facilitate connections across all sectors of the community. Attendance often includes representatives from state and county organizations, city and school district staff, and health care providers business leaders, nonprofit, faith-based, and community benefit organizations, recreational, transportation, and environmental advocates, and more.
Meeting ground rules are as follows so as to respect everyone’s time, energy, and ability to participate:
Start & end on time
Assume good intentions
It is OK to disagree, but don’t be disagreeable (i.e. aggressive, name-calling)
Remain open-minded
Don’t lose sight of common goals
Make decisions (when needed) as a group by consensus
It is OK to agree to take robust conversations offline and report back to the group
